Blades, handles, pommels and guards are useless on their own. The weapon crafting table is the only thing that assembles them.
Choose a sword, axe, knife or mace and add parts one at a time. The weapon builds on the table in front of you as you go, and nothing is consumed until you commit — take a part off again and you lose nothing. Preview only unlocks once every slot is filled, and it shows you the finished damage, durability, sharpness, speed and range plus a render of the weapon in your hands. Stand up and it all goes away, ingredients intact.
The first player to assemble a given combination names it. Under 24 characters, no special characters, and it has to be respectable — names are monitored and anything offensive is removed. That name is then permanent: everyone who later builds the same combination gets your weapon under your name.
A finished weapon behaves like any other item until you rez it. Before that it is tradeable and sellable. Once rezzed and taken it is no-transfer — keep the crate, which lets you draw a fresh copy if you lose the weapon but does not make it tradeable again.
Weapons work on huntable animals, monsters, and other players where both sides have opted into PvP. They will not kill livestock — cattle answer only to a slaughter knife, so nobody clears your herd with a sword.
