Water is the one gatherable that does not ship as an object. You get an SLC API script — SLC Water version 0.9 — which you drop into any modifiable prim of your own. A water well, a waterfall, a pond, the river you already built: put the script inside it and colonists can gather water there.
The tool is a clay jar. Click the source without one and it asks you for the tool. With it, gathering takes five seconds, works within five metres of the script, and has no gather limit — a colonist can keep drawing water until they run out of energy or wear out the jar.
Owners should know two things. The five metre range means the prim has to be a sensible size, so for a long river either ladder a row of scripts down it or edit the linkset and drop the script into the river prim itself. And gathering resets the prim to zero percent transparency — if you want an invisible water source, use a transparent texture rather than the transparency setting, because the script never touches the texture. Most builds will want the object set phantom as well.
