Point a sign at one of your craftables, farmables or gatherables and it shows you what that thing is doing without you standing next to it.
On a field, which is where most people use them, it names what is planted and how far the crop has come. Walk the boundary and you can read the whole season off the fenceposts.
In one place, which is the other way to use them, a row of signs becomes a board: link one to each field, pen and station on your land and your colony can read the state of the whole region at a glance rather than walking a sim to find out what needs doing.
A sign does not have to stand anywhere near the thing it is linked to. Put them at the gate, in the longhouse, or beside the market — wherever the people who need to know actually are.
