Forge & Anvil

The Forge & Anvil is where raw metal becomes something useful. It is the smith's station, and almost every tool another profession relies on passes through it — blades, handles and heads, buckles and fittings, and the blank coin bags the mint later strikes.

You need a smith's hammer on you to work it, and it wears out: fifty uses, one spent per craft. Most work starts from an iron ingot or metal scraps — one ingot gives five scraps in a minute at level 0 — so a smith is only ever as productive as the smelter feeding them.

Anyone may use the forge, but not all of it. A smith banks the recipes they discover and earns crafting experience for every craft; everyone else is capped at the level 0 rows, earns nothing, and re-enters the ingredients every single time. That bites harder here than at most benches, because the catalogue is 84 recipes and runs to level 5 — 8 rows at level 0, then 11, 21, 37, 6 and 1.

Two things to know before your first heat. Crafting several at once multiplies the time rather than batching it. And when a piece is ready you have sixty seconds to pull it out of the heat before it is ruined — this is not a bench to wander away from.
