The product tutorial, start to finish.
Read it written up on the forum — the same walkthrough, with the numbers, and somewhere to ask.
An aging barrel improves a drink that is already finished. You load one bottle of wine, beer or spirit with a single measure of wood chips — oak chips in most recipes, cherry, maple and fir in the rest — and wait. The same drink returns with higher health, energy and thirst values.
Nearly everything the barrel takes in comes from the Fermentor or the Distillery, and nearly everything it turns out goes on to bottling. It is a middle link in the drinks chain, not a starting point.
Only two recipes here ship with the game; the rest were authored by players, and every one of them sits at level 5. Time is the real cost: the main ladder runs at roughly 28, 100, 190 and 275 days, with the stat gain rising at each step. Start with a 28-day run, keep chips in stock, and do not commit your only bottle of something rare to a nine-month barrel.
